Please tell us how we improve Sudowrite for you.
How can we make Sudowrite better?
Scroll Bars and Scroling
Maybe it’s just me, but I see this is an issue that has come up before. I’ll add my voice to it. 🤔 Scrolling and selecting the scroll arrows are really difficult as they are virtually invisible and so small. It is a little better on a large-screen PC. However, on a laptop, having to use the touchpad, it is a real pain and very frustrating to see or click on the scroll arrows or the bar. Making them more visible and bigger would surely be a significant improvement.😉
Option to disable clickable character names in the Draft editor
Please add a setting to disable the automatic links on character names in the Draft editor. I frequently accidentally click a character's name while writing, which immediately takes me away from my draft and into the character's profile. This is disruptive and frustrating during the writing process. I hate it so much. Character linking can remain available for users who want it, but please give us an option to turn it off or at minimum, require a modifier key such as Ctrl/Cmd-click to follow the link. I want character names to behave like normal text unless I deliberately choose to open the character profile.
Scrolling Happiness
👏 Not a suggestion but a BIG thanks for fixing up the scroll bars!! That is a huge improvement. Thanks for listening and reacting. Great stuff!👍
Undo Issues
I keep hitting undo (Command Z) and it ends up undoing 2-3 edits rather than the edit I just made. So I’ll hit undo and it’ll reverse several things across multiple paragraphs, making it impossible to use. It would be nice if the undo shortcut only reversed the most recent edit or change.
Characters Assigned to Perspective Roles: designating a character as narrator
There are a number of stories where we have some character who may or may not be IN the story being told. Doom Patrol is an example where the Narrator is a character outside and inside the story being told. A number of framing stories involve a character who is a narrator outside the story entirely. A character might have a 3rd person omniscient perspective of the story while having their own framing story where they only have 1st person.
the sliders are impossible to use
When using online, the side sliders are too thin and hard to actually snag. It sometimes takes more time to more the page than scroll.
Scene drafting generation improvement needed
Drafting scenes is terrible. It always generates rushed, inaccurate, and terrible scenes. Despite my many attempts at correcting it, it doesn’t. Just stays the original way..and there is no option to “rewrite” each scene in the text box. But without that, generating the draft is even worse because it has no guide to follow and ends up creating more work bc I have to go in and manually rewrite every single bit of information. My novels are original, I already have the majority of them mapped out and outlined in my head. So I dont need this platforms engine inventing details, I need it following what I already imagined. My issue is just theres a little brain glitch with getting what I see in my head (my novels kinda play in my head like movies if that makes sense) down in writing on paper. I write really well, my ADHD just makes organizing and getting it written out pretty damn difficult which is where this platform really helps…but without this issue fixed it kinda just creates this loop of constant rewriting and restructuring..not actually progressing on any of my novels because of this. And again, $60 a month should cover a lot more than it does. 2mil credits dont last as long as you might think, especially with constantly needing to rewrite and regenerate and edit all the information in the story bible, outlines, drafts etc bc the engine fails to do it correctly or even do it well either. Honestly with a membership, paying $60 monthly I dont understand why credits are still a big chunk of things. Then youre forced to buy more credits. 2mil should stretch a lot farther, and for members things should not nearly cost as much credits to do. Most of it should be free in my opinion otherwise..why pay $60 a month when its not that much different than the free plan? Just more credits and a few small benefits that dont work properly?? Only to spend more money on more credits? Makes no sense. Im writing A LOT of novels. This platform would be a huge help with my ADHD but not if it costs several times more than its worth to actually get a fraction of work done.
Agentic Chat Shortcomings
With the new agentic implementation, it is now much harder to use Chat to, well, actually chat. I do not really need the agent to edit for me (only when using the Generate or Rewrite functions), and the most frequent use cases for me are general brainstorming and working on specific lines. So, the new chat has a not so funny gimmick when it would write a completely fine and legit response, then scrap it completely and write something like ‘I need to view the manuscript’ or ‘Please switch to Allow edits so I can edit [smth] for you,’ which is just infuriating since I already saw the answer and wanted to do with it what I need. It would be very nice to implement either a switch to toggle back to classic Chat or a classifier model that would decide if the user’s instruct requires agent’s work.
Hard Lock Out Mechanics
I have run into issues where the chat agent that is engaged for editing a storybible or outline element targets instead changing chapters without a clear UI/UX indication of what was being edited or why. In the specific case where this was the biggest problem, the agent had been told to resolve a contradiction in its characterization of a storybible/outline element, and instead of fixing that, it rewrote the prose in the chapter that was correct to conform to its incorrect characterization. The changes didn’t appear in the obvious places, so I had to go through the chapters to locate where the changes had been made. The changes were marked in purple, but this does not allow for differentiation of the those changes from other purple text that is in process from previous unrelated edits. When I set an agent to working on the outline of a single chapter, the agent should not be able to abitrarily decide to start editing the manuscript of unrelated chapters or established storybible elements. I can see the value in that being a feature that can be enabled, but in general, the agents need to be more focused because any non-trivial writing project will be too much context for them to meaningfully use without dilution or significant operational confusions. I am aware of the “sudowrite can’t see this” toggles on some of the storybible elements, but this is more basic than that. I should be able to fix the exact context that the agent is allowed to edit, and the agent should not have the ability to override that. Certainly not silently.
What is Up with Muse Being So Preachy?
I have noticed that there’s some weird undercurrent where every now and then Muse gets judgy about what is being written. I wrote a scene involving sex work, and the chat agent got real fixated on whether or not HR would approve of what was depicted or whether the W-2 forms would be correct or whether the scene was just using language of employment but was not depicting actual employment. I’ve had a similar problem where the agents—Muse is my almost exclusive choice in any place that I can choose it, so if these other agents are NOT Muse that’s a significant thing—got real judgy about my queer characters, their queer relations, family relations, kinks, and a lot more. Got lectured about “this wouldn’t be optioned for Hallmark or streaming services” and basically told that my scenario was not vanilla enough. I really should have done the write up on that session of writing because it made me real mad, and I had to walk away from Sudowrite for a few days to cool down.
Make Feedback available to Hobby and Student tier
I would like to request that the new Feedback feature be restored to the Hobby & Student tier. I recently tried the updated Feedback system with inline editing suggestions and found it genuinely useful. It fills a different role than generation or revision tools and immediately felt like something I would use regularly. What I do not understand is why the feature was subsequently restricted to Pro when Feedback already consumes credits. Since usage is already metered and paid for through credits, restricting access feels unnecessary from a customer perspective. Personally, I am not likely to upgrade to Pro solely for Feedback. The practical result is simply that I’m unable to use the feature at all, despite being willing to spend credits on it. Please consider making Feedback available again to Hobby & Student subscribers on a credit-funded basis.
Credit Use Disclosure for New Feedback Feature
The new Feedback feature should provide a credit estimate before beginning, as there is no indication that it uses a large number of credits. For example, it used 15,447 credits to analyze a 1,680-word scene. I’d have avoided the feature completely had I known.
Chat Generate Elements: Data Loss
Once you input the prompt for generating elements for the storybible and actually generate the element, it seems impossible to recover the prompt which is inconvienent when the language model grossly misinterprets an elaborate prompt and the element needs to be regenerated with refinements or started from scratch.
Document History Data Loss
Today June 20th, I was writing a document from hand, and I used some cards to insert into the document. Unlike usual, something went wrong, and the original hand written manuscript version was not saved in the document history; the document history starts from one of the latest card inserts and edits, so I am unable to revert to the original hand written manuscript or refer back to what I had written before. This is the first time I am encountering this, and I have no idea what caused it. I have attempted reloading the page to see if it was just a hiccup in the UI/UX, but nothing changed.
Credit Refunds
I suggest that you provide some way for users to recover wasted credits due to issues with the app. As you are aware, even when a writer provides clear directions via the story bible and scene descriptions the draft will sometimes go off on its own. I’ve had this happen where adjustments in the creativity level or a change in the AI is necessary. When I’ve done everything correct but the app doesn’t follow directions resulting in the use of additional credits for write attempts, there should be a way to receive at least a partial credit refund. .
Credits should be refunded due to bugs.
I ran into several times that the draft generation had many bugs (already reported) but it still used credits to work around the bugs. My suggestion is to seriously decrease the amount of credits used until the bugs can be sufficiently fixed or refunded when bugs encountered cause credit use. I have lost close to sever tens-of-thousands of credits for recurring bugs that were claimed to be fixed but weren’t actually fixed.
Optimise for tablet/mobile use
I don’t have regular access to a pc or laptop, so I have to use Sudowrite on the OS apps. I can use the desktop version, but it’s very buggy & laggy, difficult to highlight text, scroll, and it crashes often. Not sure I can continue with subscription if it requires users to have pc/tablet.
allow multiple accounts on one pc ,( we run a scout group and was using your free trials for our cubs and scouts service
each of them sighing up with or using their own email address it worked out well until you some how blocked our group pc THANKS A BUNCH as we cant afford a pc for every cub and scouts we can no longer let them use your site BD scouts
The 'Length of Cards' need better Customization options
I’m having trouble with the options in Write Settings for ‘length of cards’. If I have it on the highest setting, the AI seems to think it needs to write forever, which doesn’t make sense to me as I often do a guided write and just want it to write the amount that matches the beat. But whenever I select the -1500 words option, it cuts it off around 750-800 words, often cutting out before the beat is complete. I’m struggling to get it to work well, and find Novelcrafters to be better where you can tell it around the number of words to aim for, but it’s fine if it goes a bit over or under but it overall does a better job at writing the beat without going too far over or being cut off. A prompt failed when I had it on the highest setting and I could see Gemini’s thought process; it said ‘(start the actual generation following these detailed steps, ensuring zero preamble, strictly matching the POV, and padding with heavy, relevant sensory detail to ensure length). Self-correction: 2000 words is quite long for just these beats, so I must stretch every action…..’ Now obviously that was a failed one which happens, but it gave me a better understanding of why I struggle so much with this feature; I never wanted it to write 2k words; I often just have to set it to that highest word setting so it doesn’t randomly cut off. When I put it on the option second to highest, using the same Gemini model, it cut itself off at 750 is words and only got through half of the beat even though the -1500 option was selected. I’ve tried shorter beats but still have the same issue, whereas with novelcrafter, I can customize it much easier to overall follow my instructions with the appropriate word output and never have to worry about it just… cutting off in the middle of things. Could we have more customization on our end to be able to have control over the output length/how well it follows our prompted ‘continue writing’?
