Rich folder experience: Selective export and nested folders

The existing “folder” feature gives some flexibility in terms of managing chapters, but it can be so much more. I have listed a few ideas here, and based on my experience as a product manager, I feel most of these should be easy to implement. These would also make the lives of so many writers much easier.

Export Folder

I like to retain older versions of chapters, or discarded scenes. With this feature, I can keep a “main” folder where the main chapters reside and everything else can go in other folders. When I export my manuscript, I can then only export this main folder and not everything all together.

This will also allow writers to organise their research and other brain dumps better. We can have our own separate folders for character profiles, brainstorming, research documents, and so much more.

Nested Folders

I know writers who like to keep their scenes in separate files (in tools like Scrivener) so that it’s easier to move them around if required. With nested folders, we can have a main folder for the manuscript, and more folders within them for individual chapters. Scenes can then reside as individual files within these. Btw, when I say nested folders I don’t mean having only two levels of folders. One should be able to have as many levels of folders as they want.

Export select files/folers

The option to export the entire manuscript or single file is quite restrective. Often times, one wants to just export a few chapters so that they can share it with friends or alpha/beta readers. Or the first three chapters as part of a pitch. I am sure there are many more such reasons to export only a part of your manuscript instead of everything. Would be good to let us select specific files/folders and only export those.
