I’ve noticed various import/export asks for markdown but what’d be best for me is just a markdown mode—plain text—in editor. Sudowrite is where I do my drafting and most of my revising, but my to-PDF and to-EPUB stack is Markdown based (as is my freehand writing for small stories).
So I have to export it in .docx (with all the MS f*ckery and mess that format entails), then run it through multiple passes to get it into markdown, then clean up the markdown, and then re-insert anything that was meant to be interpreted by markdown that SW screwed up.
Currently SW “eats” any formatting I put in, which makes it worse,
If there was just a plain text/ASCII/raw mode in editor, I could just write markdown. People who’s groove is writing “typewriter” style and don’t use bold/italics could just do that.
I can’t imagine it’s hard to implement. You’ve already implemented an RTF editor and plain text is less complicated than RTF text. The scene generator doesn’t use italics/bold, from what I can tell, so it doesn’t need it.
It could literally be a checkbox at the top of the editor module which is on/off.
