I’m extremely disappointed with how limited the Sudowrite trial is for anyone seriously trying to evaluate it for novel writing.
I spent considerable time setting up an actual novel project properly—Synopsis, Characters, Worldbuilding, a 22-chapter Outline, detailed scene instructions, POV, style, and continuity requirements. Then one successful Chapter 1 draft used 18,300 credits, even though the trial only gives 10,000 credits.
In other words, the trial doesn’t even provide enough usage for one realistic long-form drafting test, much less enough to determine whether Sudowrite can actually do the job.
Two earlier Draft attempts failed completely because of generation errors. Those thankfully cost zero credits. The third attempt finally completed, but it contained significant problems: it ignored explicit scene restrictions, added an unauthorized fourth scene, introduced details that were not in the story canon, moved later plot material forward, and ended the chapter in the wrong place.
That is precisely when a prospective customer needs to regenerate, adjust instructions, try another model, and test the next chapter to see whether the problems can actually be corrected. Instead, my entire trial allowance was gone after essentially one usable attempt.
For a novelist, one chapter proves almost nothing. I need to know whether the system can follow a Story Bible consistently across several chapters, preserve continuity, obey scene boundaries, respond to corrections, and maintain quality over a full manuscript. Your current trial does not provide enough credits to evaluate any of that.
As it stands, I’m being asked to pay money simply to find out whether the product works well enough to justify paying money for it. That is a poor evaluation experience.
A meaningful trial for a product marketed to novelists should provide enough usage for several full-length chapter drafts, at least a few regenerations or revisions, and a multi-chapter continuity test. Otherwise customers are essentially buying blind.
I was genuinely interested in Sudowrite, and I found parts of the Story Bible and outlining system promising. But this trial has left me with no reasonable way to determine whether the product can actually handle my novel before I subscribe.
