Floating or Relocated Toolbar

🛠️ Feature Request: Floating or Relocated Toolbar for Improved Title Editing Workflow

Context:

Currently, the editing toolbar behaves inconsistently based on selection length:

  • When highlighting 5+ words, the toolbar appears below the selection—perfect and non-intrusive.

  • When highlighting 4 or fewer words, the toolbar instead covers the selection, making it difficult to read, adjust, or replace titles and short phrases effectively.

This presents a significant usability challenge for writers like myself who begin each new document with a provisional title at the top, and frequently need to highlight, review, and revise these short lines.

Problem:

  • The overlay blocks visibility of short selections.

  • Makes editing titles especially difficult when the system-generated suggestions (like from Sudo-Write) are off-target and need replacement.

  • Slows down workflow and causes unnecessary friction, especially during creative sprints.

Desired Outcome:

I would like to request one of the following solutions:

  1. Make the toolbar default to below the selection, regardless of word count.

  2. Allow the toolbar to be movable—a floating interface that can be dragged to any spot on the screen.

  3. Option to pin the toolbar to the top of the editor interface—ideally in the bar where the “Write” button and plugin tools already live.

These changes would drastically improve fluidity when writing and revising key elements like document titles, chapter headings, and short highlighted passages.

Thank you for considering this. It would empower writers who rely on short-form iteration during drafting and streamline a crucial aspect of the user experience.
