Automatic chapter splitting during novel import

I imported a half-finished novel containing several chapters, and the entire novel appears on the left panel as a single "file". Then I created a new chapter, which appears independently on the left panel. I need to be able to either automatically merge them, or automatically make each chapter in my imported novel independent as well.
